We are off on another adventure! And this time, our trip is going to be unlike any that we have taken before we are headed to Iceland to do a road trip around the entire country. I don’t think we've ever even done a road trip around the US much less another country, so this will be an adventure. From what we've read about Iceland in the summer, there is no darkness and the weather could be cold, there aren’t many people around and it is very expensive, so we aren’t sure exactly what to expect, but are excited for the adventure, that awaits us!
After a short 5 hour flight direct from Chicago (who knew we could get to Europe faster than Los Angeles) we arrived in Iceland's capital Reykjavik to pick up our rental car. Instead of going to the popular Blue Lagoon, we are going to save a visit to one of Iceland’s hot springs for later in our trip. Right off the bat before getting to our first overnight stay, we are going to be visiting one of the most famous sites, Thingvellir National Park.

Walking on vacations is not some thing that we are not used to, as the majority of our trips usually put 20,000 steps on our pedometers every day. But this trip will be different because we will be walking a ton, but most of it will be hiking in the outdoors and neither M nor O are big, outdoorsy people so we’ll see how this goes.
The hike to the famous waterfall at Thingvellir National park was only about a mile, so not too terrible and we lucked out because, the minute we got back to our car it started pouring. Our first overnight stay was at the Efstidalur Farm Hotel that is known for its ice cream who is dairy is made from fresh from the cows whose barn you can see as you enjoy a scoop of ice cream. Being in Iceland, where salty licorice is the flavor of choice, it was a no brainer that we would have a scoop of that one. I think the experience of eating ice cream along side cows was better than the actual ice cream itself.
