Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Vietnam lies the vibrant city of Nha Trang, where we saw some of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam but also the jaw dropping sites of Po Nagar and Long Son Pagoda.
Docking in Nha Trang was already a feat in of itself given its small port. We had to take a tender ride from our ship to the port thankfully despite being 3 hours late for our tour, our guide Tran and his driver waited for us. Our first stop on this whirlwind tour of Nha Trang is the historic Po Nagar Cham Towers, a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. As we wandered through the ancient stone structures, we were transported back in time to the era of the Cham civilization, marveling at the intricate carvings and ornate architecture that spoke of a bygone era. Our guide prided himself on being an expert photographer and often asked us to pose as he took our pictures, telling other tourists kindly to "get out of the way."
Next, we made our way to the Long Son Pagoda, where the towering white Buddha statue glistened in the midday sun. It was another scorcher of a day and M made sure to express her displeasure of the heat and made me promise that our next vacation wouldn't be tropical. Despite her grumbling, we took a moment to reflect and soak in the spiritual energy and tranquil surroundings of the sacred site.
No visit to Nha Trang would be complete without a stroll through its famous market, where the sights, sounds, and smells of Vietnam come alive in a riot of color and chaos. From the bustling stalls of fresh produce to the aromatic spices and exotic fruits, the market was a feast for the senses, offering a glimpse into the daily life of the locals. O and I could have done some serious damage here and in Vietnamese dong, we probably wouldn't have spent more than $20, but M and Baba as usual hurried us along.
We sought refuge from the sweltering heat with cool and refreshing smoothies. The girls opted for mango, but I decided to try the salty durian. Known as the "king of fruits," durian is a polarizing delicacy that elicits strong reactions from those who dare to taste it. Needless to say, we were definitely on the side of "no thanks and not to our taste."
